he tells the ancient tale. listen closely and listen good. "long ago, there was a group of cats who lived by a calm, serene lake. they found peace and harmony with each other... at least, 'til the monsters came. not only were there monsters, but there were the strangest creatures who eventually received the name 'twolegs.' this lake had been untouched and untainted by these twolegs before, and the group of cats was so frightened they left, lead to the place of which a special feline cat foretold. he told them of what he had seen in the tunnels, and he told them where to go to find peace; on the way, however, he merely disappeared. this greatly puzzled the cats, but they fearfully trudged onward, and found a home in the towering mountains. they lived there for many a season. leaders came and went, felines lived and died. it was a while, indeed. in fact, they are most likely still living there today! oh, but that's not exactly what happened..."

why they left. political problems unsolved. "the teller of that time had made a horrible mistake; a horrible decision, to be sure, although i suppose it turned out for the better in the end, otherwise i wouldn't be here telling you wonderful kittens our history, and the two tribes we have today would not exist, nor would any of the colonies or gangs or anything. we would still be in the mountains, rotting away... oh, my, i've lost my track again! hoohoohehehe. anyways, what exactly the teller's mishap was is actually forgotten. it could be anything! many think it had to do with changing the system, while others think it was not making a decision to extend their territory, or perhaps it had to do with population. all that is really not known, unfortunately, although i am unsure if it would make much a difference in the society we have as of now. the only difference would probably be the storytelling. ohh, now where were we? aye, yes, the leaving.. well, nevertheless, many cats got kicked out because of their protests to the tribe leader. and so they traveled on and on and on, and that's where the next part of the story comes in."

a traveler's experience. on the way and the destination result. "i know that the way there was very perilous, and it went on for many, many, many seasons! new leaders were chosen, the group got bigger, cats dropped out, the group got smaller, and even some untribal blood snuck in to make it our own. anyways, before we move on, i must tell you that the cats in those days were far different from what we are currently. you see, they thought in a peculiar way, had a strange perspective, and were completely and perfectly, what one would call back then, normal. they had no special appendages, they lacked colorful fur and eyes... everything was just so... different!"
"but how, grandfather, were they like that way?"
"oh, darling, it's not the fact that they were weird. it's the fact that that was the norm before it happened!"
"what's it, grandfather? tell us! tell us!"
"hehe... well, if you insist, i shall tell you. you see, they considered what we are today enchanted -- the world is apparantly enhanced in this time a lot more than it was before. at first it was a tiny, contained area that they entered; then, as more living inhabitants and more activity unexpectedly crowded in, it overflowed until it covered the whole entire world! so now, everything has become something far better than it was in the old times."

a slight mishap. caused by a clever feline; overpopulation nono. "now, obviously, the group settled in in this very territory. by now t'was very large, containing at least the amount of cats as the trees in a forest. there was quite a problem; the group, gradually forming into an organized and official state; gradually developing itself into a true tribe. this was held back, however, due to the many cats. there were several complications. no cat quite understood that but for one; his name was cloudy. he, being the clever cat he was, quietly spread random whispers about how large the tribe was. this message spread like a forest fire set in several spots, successfully passing through the whole tribe. now he had a shadow in their heads, thinking about what was said. then he began small discussions, quietly pointing out the fact that there were so many cats it would start a problem. of course, the small group he was speaking with objected and said it was nonsense, although the more they thought of it the more they realized that it was true. by the next day, the thought had passed between most of the cats. after around three days, it is believed that cloudy took a stand in a protest. other felines began to follow him and his mysterious ways, as well as his clever points. eventually, a little under half of the settlers broke off, led by the confident cloudy."
"then what, grandpa?"
"well... they found a dwelling for themselves to settle in, and everything began to work out smoothly. tribe standards and names were set in stone, and it has seemed to work out ever since."

and now to the present. the gift to all; that is why it is called so. "now, young'uns, for almost a century the two tribes had been present, occasional disputes here and there and... well, all sorts of things to be seen. there is, however, a bit of conflict occurring. us grown-ups like to call it a cold war. the reason? well... let's just say that the tribe of the stars above is causing some trouble, see, that rising sun does not approve of. in fact, an evil cat named hannibal has... taken over. oh ho ho... and you know what happens when cold wars between the two tribes occur?"
"what, grandfather, what?"
"it effects everything else, and it all comes crashing down... you, kittens, are going to have to face the greatest war in feline history."
