the tiny ghost of a panther prowled through the park, paws leaving little red droplets on the dying grass and vibrantly colored leaves, the bright sun reflecting in brilliant eyes of crimson and silver-white. his short tail hung low like his head, hiding his gaunt face as the blaze from the sun became too much; a chilly breeze nipped at his nose and wounds, sending shivers straight down to his tail-tip. the pain of hunger gnawed at his belly; the panther cub ghost ignored the familiar pangs, collapsing in a heap under one of the swings. his bones stuck out sharply from his frame, his raven wings hanging limp and doing little to protect his frail body from the threatening cold.
after an unsuccessful scrounge about in the junkyard, he had gone to the park, hoping some human children would take pity on him. the human mothers, it seemed, had different thoughts; the few humans that were out in the chilling weather were staying far from him. perhaps they thought he was dying?
it was possible. without lucy to protect him he would probably die soon; winter was coming, and it was hard enough to find food. to compete with other nomads during the winter - the thought scared him, and his body shook with sobs as he curled up in the shade of a swing that was much too high for him to reach, miserable and stinking of trash and blood.
when he regained his composure - as much as a three month old kitten could - avari turned onto his belly, sitting regally like a sphinx, nibbling thoughtfully on a blade of grass. though not quite as filling as a nice mouse or those scraps some humans would throw at him, it would fill his stomach, and keep him alive - for the time being. he couldn't live off dying grass forever.
a small purr erupted from avari's chest as he sat and watched.

death. that was the scent that carried on the wind, and suvita was sick of that smell. it was already edging towards winter and so many animals were already falling ill and dying. it was sickening to see the roads covered with dead bodies of animals - some cats, some rats and other creatures. some of these animals had probably run across the road in a pseudo-suicide manner, while others had simply starved and wandered among these roadsides to fall to their deaths in such a peaceful place. and suvita had enough of that, so the warm scent of blood in the air made her fur prickle, and she was determined to find the scent and put the poor creature out of its misery.
wandering along in the park wasn't the most joyful thing she had never done. as a kitten, she had been brought to some sort of park, but she had no idea if this was the very one. she had wrestled with susur and tuamna, only going home when her humans had chased them all and caught them, with their strong, warm hands wrapped around them. never again would she feel the caress of human hands and enjoy it; the feel of their rough hands along her fur made her want to kill something, and she would often retaliate with a scratch along a kit's face. for a moment, she wondered if this dying creature's scent was because of some kit throwing stones at it. the mere thought made her hiss at nothing in particular.
following her nose, she finally found the creature who was smelling of death and decay - a small black tom. small black wings protruded from his sides, and for a moment she felt a pang of hate, so intense. for a moment, she really wanted to walk up to that creature and rip off its wings, make it cry out in pain like she would have done in a heartbeat if she met susur again. however, there was something about the kitten as it shook with silent sobs that made her only able to watch in silence. she questioned herself about how smart this would be; wasn't it better to let the thing die quickly? was her pity going to cost them both? silencing the voice in her head that demanded answers to these questions, she rushed forward, inspecting the tom silently before tilting her head to the side.
"do you want help?" she questioned, sitting in front of him the way the wind was blowing, so he wouldn't shiver and shake anymore. it was disturbing, the amount of pity she felt for this little rat.

a prickle of unease skirted down avari's spine, raising the dirty fur to stand on end. it felt as if he were being watched - maybe a human kit? no, they had moved on, driven away by the overwhelming stench of death and decay that often came from starvation and junkyards. perhaps, then, it was a hawk, preparing to carry him away for dinner? again, he doubted the idea; under the swing, birds could not reach him. it couldn't be a dog, either; the loud, yapping creatures always gave away their position. another cat, then, he decided, resisting the urge to glance around him. he bent down to nibble on a tuft of grass between his paws once more; maybe if he ignored whoever it was, they would go away.
briefly, avari wondered how long they had been watching him. had they seen him crying? oh, dear - it it was one of those mean street cats, it was a sign of weakness. there was no room for weakness, and there was no room weakness in the winter. would they eat him? he fought the urge to wail - he didn't want to be eaten! he wasn't a mouse!
he didn't have much time to dwell on the thought of cannibalism. a big she-cat, lean and pretty but rather frightening, had sat before him. her large ivory frame was blocking the wind, reducing the cold shivers - but now, as fear gripped his heart, avari shook for another reason. he saw her paws were yellow, her face masked in blue and those navy blue eyes before he was skittering backwards, stumbling on stubby legs and paws that were too big, wings flapping uselessly - he was far too weak to fly.
avari's eyes shone with unshed tears. he was about to die, and there was nothing he could do about it.

suvita let out a little sigh, watching the weak kitten try and take off - tripping over its own paws and flapping his useless wings. with a little chuckle, she followed the kitten, amusement gleaming in her eyes as she followed the creature. it was still trembling, and she easily followed him. tilting her head to the side, she bent forward and looked the little creature straight in the eyes. "hold still, mic şobolan," she snapped, before bending down and grabbing the little kitten by the scruff. knowing the kitten would be paralyzed with fear didn't stop her at all, and she easily swung her head upwards and wandered off of the playground, into the soft grass just out of reach.
"do you want to die?" she demanded now, twitching her tail tip angrily as she stared at the wounded. "i can either help you now, or i can just leave you here. pick your choice. i won't look back." even though her words were laced with venom, she knew that she wouldn't leave the little kitten, even if he suggested that to be so. she wouldn't let anyone suffer from the fate that tuamna suffered from: not if she had a choice. however, she took a step away, just to emphasis her threat.
